RESEARCHSCOBY Pellicle inoculation with pigments

PROCESS
200mL of Scoby Media sit
for
5 weeks to merge

DEVELOPMENT Successful range expressed through each layer

For this next iteration, SCOBY growth occurred alongside pigment inoculations, both of which we are observing as elements take their course. The foundation of this project is process, allowing the elements to take shape.

For 5 weeks, June and I steeped logwood crystals, butterfly pea flowers, madder roots, marigold powder and a control to gauge the progression of this project. We flipped the fermentation process on it’s head. We nursed thin translucent bacterial cellulose material resembling paper, by drying 3-5mm kombucha SCOBY cellulose pellicle in exposed air and controlled heat. The kombucha foils sometimes carry visible traces of bacteria strings.
